2017 Oostwold Airshow

Updated: Jan 28, 2018

For the nineth time since 1999 the two-yearly airshow at Oostwold airport was organised by Tom van der Meulen, owner of P-51D Mustang 'Damn Yankee'.

In the weekend of Pentecost, the airshow was held both on Sunday and Monday, with a more comprehensive flight program on the Monday. Especially the World War II memorial block was expected to be interesting with four different Spitfires present and flying together, a first timer for Oostwold.

Over the 18 years this airshow has become the BeNeLux warbird show resembling the famous warbird shows at Duxford in England and la Ferté-Alais in France.

Special aircraft in this years' edition were the 3 different Curtiss Hawks of the Fighter Collection from England.

Another highlight was the presence of three different Norwegian aircraft, a Spitfire IX,

a P-51D Mustang and a UC-64A Noorduyn Norseman.

The Norwegian Spitfire Mk IX flew in the colours of Spitfire PV181/RAB, the aircraft belonging to the Norwegian commander Rolf Arne Berg.

He crashed at the end of WWII on 3 February 1945 at Eelde airport after being shot down by German Flak on his last mission of the war.

The airshow was visited on the Monday starting of with nice weather conditions.

Beside the warbirds many more aircraft were present and could be photographed under very relaxed circumstances. Amongst the visitors were different Harvard aircraft, the Yak-52 team, the Klu Historical Flight , the Breitling Wingwalkers and the OV-10 Bronco from Belgium.
